Clay Dough

Clay Dough

A very simple recipe

NOT FOR EATING

1/2 cup flour
1/2 cup water
1/4 cup salt
1 tablespoon cooking oil
Food coloring, if desired
1 teaspoon cream tartar

  1. Mix together in a heavy-bottomed cooking pot flour, salt, and cream of tartar.
  2. Add water, cooking oil, and food coloring if desired.
  3. Cook mixture, stirring constantly, over medium heat.
  4. It will get thick, then lumpy, and then begin to roll about in the pan in a dry mass.
  5. Cook it just a bit longer until all the wet, shiny parts look dry.
  6. Turn the dough out on to a counter and let cool a bit.
  7. Store in a plastic bag at room temperature.
  8. The clay will keep for about 2 months. Once molded, it will harden permanently in a few days.
