A very simple recipe
NOT FOR EATING
1/2 cup flour
1/2 cup water
1/4 cup salt
1 tablespoon cooking oil
Food coloring, if desired
1 teaspoon cream tartar
- Mix together in a heavy-bottomed cooking pot flour, salt, and cream of tartar.
- Add water, cooking oil, and food coloring if desired.
- Cook mixture, stirring constantly, over medium heat.
- It will get thick, then lumpy, and then begin to roll about in the pan in a dry mass.
- Cook it just a bit longer until all the wet, shiny parts look dry.
- Turn the dough out on to a counter and let cool a bit.
- Store in a plastic bag at room temperature.
- The clay will keep for about 2 months. Once molded, it will harden permanently in a few days.
