Get the entire family involved in making this Valentine’s cake.
1 box of white cake mix
6 tablespoons granulated or confectioners sugar
1 9-inch round cake pan
1 9-inch square cake pan
1 quart fresh strawberries
1 pint heavy whipping cream
1 tablespoon vanilla
Step I: Cake
- Bake cake according to directions on box in 9-inch round cake pan and 9-inch square cake pan.
- Cool.
- Cut each cake layer into 2 layers.
- Cut the round layer in half.
Step II: Frosting
- In a chilled bowl, beat 2 cups chilled whipping cream; 1 tablespoon vanilla; and 6 tablespoons granulated or confectioners sugar until stiff. Be sure that bowl, beaters, and cream are ice cold.
Step III: Strawberries
- To clean fresh strawberries, rinse in cold water leaving stem on. Pat dry.
- Remove stem ends.
- Slice.
Step IV: Construction
- Place one square layer in center of tray; place round layers to form heart.
- Frost with a thick layer of whipped cream and top with plenty of strawberries.
- Add second layer of cake; repeat layering of whipped cream and berries.
- Ice sides with whipped cream.
